A white smile is a hallmark of confidence, and at Randwick Smiles we are pleased to offer our patients the pola teeth whitening system which offers results in as little as 30 minutes. Under the supervision of your dentist, this take-home whitening kit is safe and effective.

How Does Professional Teeth Whitening Work

Remember that safety always comes first with teeth whitening. Before you go ahead with any whitening treatment, it is essential that you have a check up and professional clean by your dentist.

This will ensure that any cavities, cracks or decay is addressed, and that the surface of your teeth is free of plaque and tartar prior to whitening. This also manages tooth sensitivity and ensures an even whitening result.

Why Do Our Teeth Change Colour Over Time?

As we get older, the dentin in our teeth which was once white begins to discolour. This can be exacerbated by different substances that we expose our mouths to like cola, coffee, tobacco, tea and even certain medications.

Over the counter whitening toothpastes, teeth whitening kits and strips are not very effective, because they only get to work on the surface of the tooth and do not contain a high enough concentration of hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen carbamide to penetrate the tooth’s enamel.

What Can You Expect From A Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment?

When you use a professional whitening treatment on your teeth, the bleaching gel is a strong concentration of hydrogen peroxide. When this is applied to the surface of your teeth it is broken down into oxygen ions and water.

The oxygen ions penetrate the enamel of your teeth and break up the stain molecules, rendering them colourless. These colourless molecules are disposed of via your saliva. Generally, the number of active ingredients that are present influence the degree of whitening.

How Does Teeth Bleaching Work?

After your consultation and clean, your dentist will identify your pre-treatment tooth shade according to the pola shade guide. Remember that a luminous smile is not for everyone, so it you should opt for something as natural as possible.

Poladay is available in different concentrations of 3%, 6%, 7.5% and 9.5% hydrogen peroxide. Higher concentrations of bleaching gel are only available for professional teeth whitening treatments. Your dentist will make a choice according to your desired end result.

He or she will give you trays to take home, as well as the bleaching agent that you will apply. Remember to follow all your dentist’s instructions.

When it is time for whitening, you will dispense a small drop of the teeth whitening gel into each compartment of your tray. You will then place the tray securely in your mouth so that it covers the surface of each of your teeth. If any gel pushes out from the tray you can wipe it off gently with a tissue. You will keep the tray on for 30 minutes.

After the 30 minutes is over you will remove and rinse the tray and your mouth with lukewarm water before brushing your teeth. It is important that you do not exceed the recommended treatment time as this will not necessarily improve your results, it may give you tooth sensitivity and could weaken your tooth enamel.
